Short Reflection

As a content teacher rather than a language teacher, this travel into CLIL is particularly interesting to me especially for all the language training support that I have received.  For the students to learn new content in a foreign language requires teachers to anticipate language problems and help learners solve them as they proceed through the lesson. Once the teacher manages do it, it is thrilling to see that your students can express themselves about electromagnetic induction using “the English corner” with the new vocabulary and expressions. It also makes me proud when they read a test about the atomic structure with fluency and appropriate pronunciation, thanks to the previous practice with a recorded English voice.

I should highlight that the experience has been very enriching for all the students, for those with more fluent English, as well as for those who say they do not understand anything, but they have proved themselves wrong.  All of them they showed interest in the activities and participated dynamically, which represents quite a challenge in the school I work at. They really enjoyed the group activities and projects that provide interaction. They were open to the changes and they never complained about the group they were assigned to. Furthermore, they were curious about what was going to happen next.

I personally believe that all the extra time and effort  that CLIL requires for lesson planning and teaching, it is beneficial for all our students, and the satisfaction that comes as a result of their effort, makes me feel that we both, teachers and students, really “Switch on to English”
